WHo we are

One thing led to another (there may have been a breach of coach/client contract 😜) and eventually Cory and Erin ended up together, realizing that they wanted to open up their own gym. They reached out to the FBBC franchise, found an opportunity in Coquitlam, and uprooted their lives to move out to BC.

Cory and Erin opened up Coquitlam FBBC 6 months before covid hit, and although this was a very challenging time as new business owners, their community grew and got stronger as a result.

Many years later, they have parted from the franchise, re-branded as Axe Fitness, and they are still going strong with their mission to build a healthier, happier, and stronger community. 💪

Cory and Erin met at a Fit Body Boot Camp in Cochrane, AB. Erin was working in healthcare at the time, and Cory had just graduated from the University of Lethbridge with a Bachelor of Arts in Kinesiology.

Cory started coaching at FBBC and Erin was a client. Erin joined the gym, as she was getting more sedentary, and more depressed, and she wanted to meet some like-minded people and start working on her health. Cory had just finished working on his aunt and uncle’s farm, and was looking for a career that used his new degree.

What We Do

35-minute group fitness classes, following a HIIT-style workout (High-Intensity Interval Training).

The workouts are fast-paced, different every day, and EFFECTIVE.

We have been voted the best gym in Coquitlam for 4 years in a row and work to provide the best possible experience to our members each and every day.

Why We Do It

We are in the business of building better humans.

What does this mean?

Instilling simple habits (like exercising regularly, drinking 100-120oz of water each day, showing up to workouts on time, eating good food, etc.) that help people gain the confidence to succeed and build a better life for themselves.

If you as an individual can raise your standards, strive to be 1% better each day, and work to be the BEST version of yourself, collectively we will all get better as a community; and THAT is our mission and THAT is why we do what we do.

The power of one more

During the pandemic, in 2022, Erin purchased Ed Mylett’s book, “The Power of One More” and as a result, got a free ticket to a online event he was putting on. One of the guest speakers was Andy Frisella, founder of 1st Phorm.

Andy told a story about a man with an axe.

Two men worked together in a forest cutting down trees. They both went to work at the same time and ended at the same time but one man cut down more trees. The man who cut down more trees took more, and longer, breaks.

One day, the man who was cutting down fewer trees with less breaks got frustrated and asked the other man, “How is it that I am working harder and longer than you but you are cutting down more trees? What are you doing when you leave for your breaks?”

The man responded, “I am going to sharpen my axe.”

the principles of axe & the beginning of a brand

With a sharper axe, the man was able to cut down more trees in less time with less effort.

We knew right away that this was our brand, and that night, we got to work and created a logo (right).

This was the start of Axe Fitness.

We were looking for a strong name that represented us and told a story, and we knew that we had found our mark.

After many long nights with @karilynndesign, we came up with the below logos and the rest is history!

We are excited to launch our brand and our business to the world, and we are excited that you are a part of it!

what “axe fitness” means to us

One of our core values is CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT. This means continuing to “sharpen your axe” by sharpening your skills each day. Things like: reading educational books, listening to educational podcasts, working out, eating healthy food, drinking 100-120oz water, etc. Doing the simple things consistently over time that will help you grow, improve, and get 1% better each day.

WORKING SMARTER: With strong, consistent action (e.g. by hitting the same spot on the “tree”) over time, you will see the greatest result.

If you try to cut down a tree by swinging your axe at different spots on the tree, it will take you longer to get the result you are after. You will be exhausted, frustrated, and confused as to how other people got there “faster” and “easier”.

Lastly, by WORKING HARD, our core value #1, you will earn the result you are working towards in the fastest and most efficient way possible.
